My plans for tonight originally included catching the end of the Mafrika Festival @ Marcus Garvey Park, but on the way out of the office I realized that, perhaps, finally getting a Netflix movie watched AND getting grocery shopping done would probably be more productive. So, here we are.
I've been planning to watch this movie for a long long long time. I simply never got around to it because I'm a lazy ass, obviously. I'm not all that good at opinions. That statement may shock you. What I mean is, I'm not all that good at expressing an opinion when it comes to a film like this. It's inspiring, it's eye-opening, it's honest. Al Gore is very sexy man, what can we say? Besides the point, there. Um. The film is beautifully captured, it follows an intelligent line of thinking in terms of getting the viewer to follow the ideas. And it's visually happy. The assistance of cartoons and drawings that Al Gore utilizes certainly enhance the film's cohesiveness with family values.
I don't have a whole lot to say here about global warming and about buying locally and reducing your carbon footprint, except....do it. Do what you can. This planet is all we have. I know it's difficult and I know that, much of the time, it really is just cheaper to buy something that's been grown in Guatemala, frozen, and shipped to the US West Coast and then trucked over to the East Coast....but it's not healthier, in the long run.
I try not to talk about work here, but this is appropriate. This week, at work, we attempted a new system for handling a certain process when it comes to ticketing and it has been very successful. I'm very happy about this because, a) we're saving a lot of paper (nee trees) as well as toner and suck, and b) I was the one who made the suggestions. There were other suggestions made in my environment-happy essay that I slipped anonymously into the suggestion box last week (it's okay, we don't have to be hush hush about it anymore since something's actually happened), but this step was surely the best one that could have been acted on. I'd assumed that most of my other suggestions (drafted up with the help of my roomate/coworker/friend/co-star, Ben) would be ignored--and for good reason--but this one I'd hoped would be acted on, and it was. One small step, I guess. One at a time.
